A gang of Sydney street thugs has been throwing faeces at their victims to distract them before robbing them.
Police are hunting the group of men who they say are hurling excrement at people and fleecing them just after they withdraw money from financial institutions.
"These robberies are vile and sickening in their nature and we are doing everything we can to catch those responsible," Burwood crime manager, Detective Inspector James Deeley, said.
An 82-year-old man had more than $8000 swiped from his pocket on April 12 just after he and his wife withdrew money from a bank in Wareemba, in Sydney's inner west.
Four offenders threw faeces at the couple's backs before offering to help clean their clothes.
After the men departed, the couple discovered their money missing.
Similar incidents happened on April 5, at a Hurstville shopping centre where a 50-year-old man was robbed of $30,000, and on March 22, when a 69-year-old man had $3500 stolen after leaving a bank in Lakemba.
Police have released CCTV images of a number of males who may be able to assist them with their investigation.
